The Most Western State of the USA

Right now Alaska is the most Western State in the Union since 1959.

But before Alaska, Washington State held the most western point title of the USA, from 1889 until 1959.

Before Washington State, Oregon was the most west of the west from 1859 until 1889.

Before Oregon, California was the most westward state from 1850 until 1859.

Before California, Texas was the most western state.
Before Texas, Missouri was the most western state from 1821 until 1845.

Before Missouri, Louisiana was the the most western from 1812 until 1821.

Before Louisiana, Tennessee was the most westward state from 1796 until 1812.

Before Tennessee, Kentucky was the most western state from 1792 until 1796.

Before Kentucky, Georgia was the most westward state from 1788 until 1792.

Before Georgia, Pennsylvania was the most western state for less than month between December 12, 1787 until January 2, 1788.

Before Pennsylvania, Delaware was the most western state.

Most Eastern State in the Union

Right Now Maine is the most eastward state, since 1820.

But before Maine, Massachusetts was the most eastern state from 1788 until 1820.

Before Massachusetts, Connecticut was the most eastern state in the Union during the winter of 1788.

Before Connecticut, New Jersey was the most eastern state in America, on New Years Eve 1787 and for the first New Year's Day of 1788.

Before New Jersey, Pennsylvania was the most eastern state of the USA for a few days of December 1787.

Before Pennsylvania, Delaware the most eastern state during the Constitutional Era.

Most Northern State in the USA

Right now Alaska is the most Northern State in the Union, but before 1959 the most northern state was Minnesota.  For a sweet 101 years Minnesota was the most northerly state in the Union.

Before Minnesota, Michigan was the most Northern State from 1837 until 1858.

Before Michigan, Maine was the most Northern State from 1820 until 1837.

Before Maine, Massachusetts was the most Northern State from 1788 until 1820.

Before Massachusetts, Pennsylvania was the most Northern State in the Union from December 12, 1787 until February 6, 1788.

Before Pennsylvania, Delaware was the most Northern State in the Union.

The most Southern State in America

Right now Hawaii is the most Southern State of the USA.

Before Hawaii, Florida was the most Southern State from 1845 until 1959.

Before Florida, Louisiana was the most Southern State in America from 1812 until 1845.

Before Louisiana, Georgia was the most Southern State in the Union from 1788 until 1812.

Before Georgia, Delaware was the most Southern State in the Union from 1787 until 1788.

Suffice it to say no Yankee State was ever Queen of the South, and Hawaii don't count.

What is the smallest state in the United States of America?

Right now Rhode Island gets the Weeman title, but it always wasn't that way.  Before Rhode Island joined the union - Delaware was the smallest state in the union from December 12, 1787 until May 29, 1790.

But as soon as Washington DC become a full time state, Rhode Island will loose her title as the smallest.

The Largest, Biggest State in the United States of America?

It depends!  Right now in 2013 Alaska by far it the largest.  But long ago, Texas was once the largest.....so

Alaska is the now the officially largest state but before the Klondike King, Texas was the largest.  Before Texas, Missouri was the biggest. Before Missouri, Virginia was the largest.  Before Virginia, Georgia was the biggest.  Before Georgia, Pennsylvania was the largest state in USA.  And by default, before Pennsylvania, Delaware was the biggest state in America from December 7, 1787 until December 12, 1787.

It's kinda' not fair since for five days Delaware held all of the titles: the smallest, largest, tallest, lowest, coldest, hottest, smartest, friendliest, most populated, most north-south-east-west, etc...you name it Delaware has been there and done that.

Purple Moon - Defined

A Purple Moon occurs when a New Moon falls at least some 21 days before the Northern Winter Solstice.  It is similar to Violet Moon, in such that it is moon that falls on the cusps between the New Years.

Nobody can give a perfect distinction between Violet and Purple but they are similar in this case they both relate to the Moon of Last Year that has hung on to the new year.

Basically when the New Year comes, we are celebrating a lap around the sun.  But you gotta' remember that the moon of the new New Year was most likely created last year so, at least at night, when the sun is hiding, the Old Moon from 'Last Year' is still shining on.

Violet Moon - Defined

A Violet Moon occurs when a New Moon falls in between the Winter Solstice  and New Years Eve.  To be precise the New Moon can appear on the Winter Solstice and on New Years Eve Eve.  Yeah, that's right, that is not a typo.  The New Moon must fall on the day before New Years eve, or rather the night before New Year's Eve.

In case you forgot  a New Moon is not visibly lit by the Sun...aka when the Moon is Black.  A New Moon is the opposite of a Full Moon.  So why don't they just call it an Empty Moon instead of a New Moon?

Furthermore what about an Old Moon?  Since Old is the opposite of New!   You'd think some people would call a Full Moon an Old Moon?

This is why people get that concept mixed up - it does not flow with the natural thought of balance to opposites.  Leading to people not caring about the cycles of the moon.  The vocabulary is all funked up.

In the end, when Santa is puttin' presents under the tree and there is no moon light to help him out, we are going to have a Violet Moon.  And if its a Full Moon when Santa is out, we have a Purple Moon.

A LOGICAL ANALOGY WOULD BE
EMPTY MOON - is to --- FULL MOON.........AS..........NEW MOON ---is to ---- OLD MOON

A Green Moon - Defined

Have you heard of Blue Moon!  I has nothing to do with the moon being the colour blue.  Rather it deals with some cosmological counting of months and cycles of the moon.  But I heard in the near future people actually paint the moon blue with lasers and a neat light show when it does happen.

But what about a Green Moon?  In this case a Green Moon is when there is a New Moon (when the moon goes 'unlit' by the sun) and it happens to fall on New Years Eve.  Thus the first Day of the New Year is synchronized to the first really new new years moon of January 1.  Thus that moon is Green Moon.

South Asia is shaped like a bat - the flying fox or giant fruit eating bat

When you include India, Nepal, Butan, and Bangladesh is makes out the image of a bat with its wings spread out. Coincidentally India is home to one of the largest bat vegetarians - the flying fox bats.  The head is facing Pakistan and its wing is spread out as if on a side profile shot.
